Some weeks ago you enquired about a family portrait by Renoir- which belongs to the artist- and is not for sale. To-day I have received a portrait of Mrs. Renoir which might interest you. It was painted about 1873 so that she was then twenty-five. It is of a small size, 9 x 7 1/8 inches, but of charming quality and color- highly finished, yet broadly done. It was sold by the artist at that time and has been in this country for probably twenty years. I had altogether forgotten it and was surprised to see it again.
